Hey travellers!
Once again, I want to thank you for supporting this project. There’s been plenty of ups and downs, but that’s just the way of the land.
I had big plans for March. Unfortunately, I gave myself a nasty back injury which kept me grounded for a bit. Luckily, I had done lots of research trips throughout February, so while I wasn’t able to travel much (or sometimes not get out of bed), I had previous work I could rely upon.
I explored the history of the Victorian Goldfields, which took me throughout Central Victoria. I uncovered the good, the bad and the ugly about the Goldfields, including the Eureka Stockade and its legacy.
Funnily enough, I was still exploring the world from my desk (or bed). I was exploring southern China and I also crossed the ditch into New Zealand, where I rediscovered a lot about Dunedin, the city I lived in for a while.

I’ve got one more story about the Goldfields, but then I’ll shelve that topic for a while. I like to keep things novel and sometimes it’s good to give some space before revisiting a topic. So, what’s next?
I’ll be researching the places I didn’t get to this month, typically focusing on first European Settlements in Australia. Hopefully I don’t injure myself again!
And I didn’t quite get to doing smaller stories. I prioritised the larger ones to make up for lost time, but I think the odd tidbit here and there is a useful thing – big posts can get tedious!
POSTS WRITTEN THIS MONTH
I’ve been working hard to produce stories you’ll find interesting and insightful. The posts written for March are:
- Bunjil’s Shelter
- Not All That Glitters Is Gold…
- To Swear on the Southern Cross
- The Eureka Stockade: Legacy
- Apples to (Mandarin) Oranges
- The Last Pacific Goldrush
More stories coming in April – stay tuned!

Be sure to check out my YouTube channel. There, I work and play with ideas to do with history. It’s more philosophical in nature, but there’s the occasional story from my past I might want to tell. The main objective is to stimulate conversation and give you something to think about. No right or wrong – only learning and exploring.
Until next time! – Jacob
